Heute: Open Streets Mitchells Plain

Die verkehrspolitische Diskussion ist hierzulande doch sehr auf Mitteleuropa und Nordamerika fokussiert. Daher sei hier kurz erwähnt, dass in Cape Town in Südafrika heute der letzte Open Street Day der 2016/17-Serie stattfindet.

Eisleben Rd (between Wespoort Dr & Spine Rd) will be transformed into a space for people instead of cars. Kids and adults will be able to walk, dance, play, cycle, skate, explore, connect and showcase projects; for free! Open Streets is created by everyone who comes along on the day.

Eine Straße für Menschen statt Autos. Das sollte es bei uns auch in den einzelnen Stadtteilen geben wie in Cape Town. Hinter den Tagen steht übrings eine Bürgerinitiative, die sich damit auseinandersetzt, wie Straßen genutzt,  wahrgenommen und erfahren werden.

OSCT works to challenge the paradigm of urban mobility by carrying out campaigns, temporary interventions, dialogues and walks that raise citizen awareness, spark public debate, and ultimately drive behaviour change around the role of streets in the life of the city. Our aim is to create shared spaces that bring people together, no matter who we are or how we move, for a more equitable, integrated, safer and vibrant Cape Town. We want streets to embody respect for all.

Ihnen geht es um Respekt für alle auf der Straße und die sozialen und räumlichen Gräben der Stadt zu überbrücken:

We believe that streets should:

• enable safer and more cohesive communities
• provide platforms for creative expression of local cultures and values
• be places for recreation and social interaction
• contribute to job creation and local economic activity
• provide choice in how we move around the city

Während die deutsche Ingenieursseele Sympathien für technische Lösungen wie neue Radwegformen sucht, versteht sich der Ansatz als Philosophie des öffentlichen Lebens, schreiben die Aktiven in ihrem Manifest. Es geht darum, geteilte Räume des Respektes zu schaffen. Es geht also weniger um die bautechnische Gestaltung, sondern um die Art der Nutzung.
